Preston’s FFA parliamentary team placed first among area schools at a recent district Parliamentary Procedure and Speaking Care Development contest at West Side High School.
The win qualifies the team to compete at a state contest at Twin Falls next month, said Larin Crossley, FFA instructor at Preston.
Finishing second in prepared public speaking was Afton Stone. Jason Petterborg also finished second in extemporaneous speaking. Both competed in the events for the first time and did very well, said Crossley.
“Several of the team members competed at last year’s state event and look to improve on their fifth-place finish. The event includes a written test, oral questions and an eight-minute demonstration of parliamentary procedure based on Robert’s Rules of Order,” said Crossley.
He said team members include Madison Jensen, Kendal May, Katelynn Palmer, Emmy Sadler, Jarek Crossley and Austyn Harris.
