The West Side wrestlers traveled to Soda Springs on Friday to compete at the district tournament. The state tournament will be held at the Idaho Center in Nampa this weekend.
Derek Wedel, Taylor Beckstead, TJ Stokes and AJ Frankman all did well and will advance to state.
Both Wedel and Beckstead wrestled in the 195 weight class. Each had byes for the first rounds and only wrestled one match apiece before meeting each other for the district championship. In 26 seconds, Wedel pinned his teammate.
Wedel (15-6) and Beckstead (11-9) will be going into the state competition ranked sixth and twelfth, respectively.
Wrestling at 106, Stokes also had several byes. He lost his first match 2-0 to Brock Udy, Malad, and placed third overall. Stokes has a record of 21-7 and is currently ranked as third in the state in his weight class.
Frankman began wrestling this year. After losing his first match, he got a forfeit and that gave him the win needed to place third and have a spot at state.
