DAYTON – West Side’s boys’ basketball finished the regular season last week with two district losses. The Pirates played Soda Springs on Feb. 12 in Dayton. Though the Pirates beat the Cardinals earlier this season 50-44, they let this game get away, losing 58-49.
The Pirates lost another home game on Friday to Malad 46-32.
With a season conference record of 2-4, West Side will be going into the district tournament this week ranked number three. They played the Cardinals in Soda Springs on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Pirates started off well against Soda, but fell apart in the second half. After capturing the lead in the first quarter, the Pirates maintained it throughout the first half.
Eleven of the Cardinals’ points during those two periods were from foul shots. The Pirates’ foul trouble did not help in the second half.
In the third period, Soda hit shot after shot while the Pirates struggled to both take baskets and make baskets. With 14 unanswered points, the Cardinals flipped the advantage to 40-29 at one time during the quarter.
