The Indian girls lost to Blackfoot 85-56 last Thursday in Blackfoot in their final game of the regular season.
They started the district tournament on Tuesday at Rigby at 7 p.m.
A win sends them to Pocatello this Thursday at 7 p.m. A loss sends them to a loser-out game on Saturday against the loser of the game at Century on Thursday.
Blackfoot’s strategy on Thursday was to essentially play defense with four players, so the fifth could be in position to score before Preston had a chance to recover.
“Blackfoot sent cherry pickers all night with only four players on defense,” said coach Belinda Taylor. “If we missed, they had a player running the floor before the shot could be rebounded.
“They threw the ball out of bounds probably 10 times in an effort to hit the cherry picker. It was frustrating to not get back quickly enough.”
The Indians trailed 27-16 at the end of the first quarter. They matched Blackfoot’s 11 points in the second, but couldn’t gain any ground.
