The West Side girls’ basketball team finished its regular season this week and will begin the district tournament this week.
Senior night was last Wednesday against Aberdeen and the Pirates won that final home game 49-33.
The next game was in Malad and the Pirates lost 35-31.
Wednesday’s game was one of the very best the Pirates have had all season. They started off early with seven unanswered points.
A three-point basket brought Aberdeen into the scoring column. After that the lead went back and forth during the rest of the first quarter.
The Pirates’ consistent rebounding helped the rest of the game.
Six points from foul shots and an additional two field goals extended the Pirate advantage in the third. West Side went into the final period up 32- 26.
The final quarter was by far the best quarter West Side has had all season.
The Pirates scored 17 points.
Ally Lemmon had a phenomenal game with 16 points. Mattie Creager and Abbie Povey both scored eight.
Though it was close throughout the entire game against Malad, the Pirates weren’t able to get another win.
