West Side’s boys’ basketball team had a tough loss this week against Marsh Valley. Earlier this season the Pirates beat the Eagles 67-38 at home, so it came as a surprise for West Side fans when the Pirates lost the away game 48-41.
The loss guarantees district tournaments will not be held at West Side. This week the Pirates have two games. The first is at Aberdeen on Wednesday and West Side is hoping to avenge a loss at home earlier this season. On Friday the Pirates will play the Firth Cougars at home.
After tying the score at six, the Pirates took control of the first quarter. Wyatt Beckstead and Josh King both had six points. Jason Wade and Matt Turnbow scored four. At the end of the quarter the Pirates were up 20-9.
The Eagles had a six point run at the beginning of the second quarter. Brennon Henderson made the only field goal of the period. At the half the Pirates still had the lead 27-19.
