Preston City has hired a new part-time police officer. Nick Hyde, a Preston High School teacher and head football coach, is now in training and will become a Level 1 officer as soon as he completes a Police Officer Standards and Training course this spring.
Hyde will fill the hours of Heath Edwards, an animal control officer who resigned his position several weeks ago and moved from the community. He will be assigned work around his teaching and coaching duties, according to officials.
