An early Sunday morning house fire completely destroyed a house in the Dayton area. There were no injuries.
Franklin County Fire Marshal Scott Martin said the fire call came in at 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning and the house was fully involved by the time firefighters arrived on scene.
The house was owned by Steve Kent at 364 So. Westside Highway 36, according to Martin.
“I’m going out there today (Monday) to do more investigation. But it appears the cause of the fire was an electrical short. Exactly where that occurred is undetermined,” said Martin.
“I’m estimating damage between $150,000-200,000. The house was completely destroyed. We had 14 firefighters respond with six trucks. Firefighters were on scene for approximately six hours.”
The house was insured. Residents Kent and his wife, Kim, are currently staying in a motel in the Logan area. Shari Hokanson, a daughter of the Kents, was also living in the house and was displaced, as well. Two housedogs also escaped the fire without injury.
