The Festival of Lights will begin Saturday with a host of events starting with the popular International Bed Race on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 1 p.m.

WILLOW VALLEY 5X7.5

Beckstead Real Estate and Groll Family Fitness are sponsoring this year’s race. Teams should meet in the parking lot of US Bank on the corner of Oneida and State Street no later than 12:30 p.m. Registration forms can be obtained at Groll Family Fitness and Beckstead Real Estate or can be filled out the day of the competition. Rules are contained in the registration form.

“If someone wants to bring their own bed they can,” Chris Groll said. “Or you can use the ones we will provide.”

CHRISTMAS PAPERBACK 4X16 2013

Invitation letters were sent to businesses and schools all over the valley trying to increase participation.

“Uniforms can be anything from long underwear to crazy pajamas. Uniforms are encouraged, not required, but always fun. Teams consist of 10 people, eight pushers and two people in nightgowns.

The Bed Race starts with four pushers and a rider in a nightgown that race down State Street. At the halfway point pushers and riders change places with four other pushers. The nightgown is removed from the rider and put on the new rider. The mattress is flipped and sheets removed and reattached. Then the second group finishes the race.

Following the Bed Race, children will take center stage on State Street for the Kids Day Parade.
