The West Side football team started its state tournament play on Friday night defeating the Salmon Savages decisively 39-14.
Going into the game the Pirates were very aware of Salmon’s strong offense. And the Pirates’ defense did an excellent job interrupting the Savages’ passing game with three interceptions and two quarterback sacks.
The next game for the Pirates will be against Orofino. It will be played at Holt Arena in Pocatello on Thursday at 5 p.m.
The Pirates’ momentum started early on when Trevor Montes ended Salmon’s first possession with an interception. After his interception he ran the ball 72 yards for the first West Side touchdown of the night. The following kick was good and at the end of the first quarter the Pirates led 7-0.
In the second quarter West Side quarterback Peyton Brown moved the ball down the field with long passes to Josh King and Karson Alder.
