Both of Preston’s cross country teams qualified for state in a three-team district meet held on Pocatello’s home turf on Thursday, Oct. 24.
Preston, Pocatello and Century runners vied for top district honors on the rugged ISU course, but it was Pocatello who won both team races.
The northern Indians barely edged Preston’s girls’ squad, eking out a win by one point, 37-38.
Senior Caitlin Elgan won the overall race with a time of 19:50. Aunika Crowther, Tori Groll, Becca Visser and Kayla Palmer also contributed to the team score, with seventh, eighth, 10th and 12th place, respectively.
The Preston boys’ team took second place with 60 points to Pocatello’s 15. Sophomore Kaden Shumway was first for the boys’ team, running an 18:14 time to come in 10th place. Kaleb Fenton, Sawyer Jensen, Kendon Harrison and Josh Butler also added to Preston’s team results, coming in true pack fashion with 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th place, respectively.
