DAYTON – West Side’s football team defeated the Soda Springs Cardinals on Thursday, winning its third consecutive district championship.
The Pirates won 35- 9.
This week the Pirates will begin state playoffs. They will be playing Salmon at home on Friday at 6 p.m.

In the first offensive play of the game against Soda, Pirate quarterback Peyton Brown threw a long pass to Karson Alder for a 58-yard touchdown.
The early score was followed by a good kick by Coby Roholt. The Cardinals responded and on their first drive, they took the ball to the Pirates three-yard line where they fumbled.
It was recovered by Lane Meek for the Pirates. Soda Springs’ defense scored on a safety. Near the end of the first quarter, the Pirates scored again, making the score 15-2.
During the second quarter, Soda fumbled again and that turnover resulted in another touchdown for West Side. The score at the half was 22-2.
The Pirates failed to score in the third quarter of the game and Soda came alive, making consistent first downs.
But in the fourth West Side shut them down again. Roholt scored his second touchdown of the night.
