West Side High School senior Kennedy Bingham recently returned home from a week spent in Idaho Falls, where she competed for the state title of Farm Bureau sponsored Distinguished Young Women. She won the title for Franklin County last April
Kennedy, the daughter of April and Ken, said even though she didn’t place in the top 10, she still felt like she was a winner. “I learned so much,” said Kennedy. “It was amazing. Yes, I would do it again. Of course I would. It was an amazing experience and I will never forget it.”
Kennedy was one of 40 girls state wide who competed in the annual event. Each girl, representing her home county, held a shoe drive throughout this past year. A goal was set for the girls to collect 35,000 pair. According to Bingham, the girls actually collected 75,000 pair, to be sent to South American countries and Africa as a humanitarian project. Kennedy collected 1,453 pair from Franklin County.
