Franklin City Council members discussed a proposal for a new park, after Mayor Todd Hawkes stated he and Warren Robinson had reviewed costs of building a park and memorial on the east side of Franklin.
Last month, Robinson had offered to donate property, along with $50,000, to construct a park that would be turned over to the city. The park would be in memory of his father, Floyd Robinson, who served as Franklin mayor during the years 1972- 1980. A former resident of Franklin, Warren now lives in South Dakota, but still has ties to the city.
Hawkes said that after crunching numbers, he and Robinson had decided the cost of building a new park, along with concerns of maintenance and liability, was not realistically feasible. A second proposal was brought to the council that the $50,000 be put towards a memorial at an existing city park, perhaps the Pioneer or Heritage.
