Fryar clarifies jail budget

The Franklin County Jail budget for 2014 decreased by $134,355 compared to the 2013 budget, which ends on Sept. 30.

It went down from $501,323 to $366,968.

According to county budget figures the county justice category, which includes jail, went up $368,145; from 1,714,405 to $2,082,550.

Other departments in the county justice category include juvenile justice, prosecuting attorney, sheriff, sheriff’s dispatch and 911, which increased the most.

“We are anticipating a $350,000 grant for the county’s 911 system. If we do get the monies we will be totally updating the system.

These monies will be pass-through in the overall budget, with no matching funds required. The grant looks very promising at this point,” said Sheriff Dave Fryar.

The Citizen regrets any confusion caused by a budget article in the Sept. 4 edition.
