DAYTON – West Side volleyball was action-packed this week with a tri-match, a regular game and a tournament. The tri-match, hosted by West Side on Wednesday, was with Bear Lake and Preston. The Pirates defeated Bear Lake but lost to Preston. On Thursday, they played Grace at home where they easily beat the Grizzlies. West Side then traveled to Pocatello on Friday for the Peg Peterson Tournament.
The Pirates beat Bear Lake for the first time in many years. Since it was a tri-match game, in order to win, one of the teams had to win two out of three matches. West Side won in the first two. The Bears seemed to struggle under pressure placed on them by the Pirates’ steady passing and hard hitting.
“The tri-match on Wednesday was a great way to start the season. We played good volleyball against Bear Lake. We just need to keep our momentum up and play volleyball. We are starting to work well as a team and I’m really excited to see what the rest of the season brings,” said Mackenzie Moser, West Side’s setter.
Preston gave West Side a greater challenge and though the Pirates were able to fight back and win the second game they ended up losing the third match to the Indians.
