The Preston boys soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 3, against Century.
The score was 0-0 until the 32nd minute when the Diamondbacks capitalized on a 19-yard free kick that barely made it under the crossbar. It was Century’s only shot on goal the entire game.
“Overall, I was happy with (our performance), as happy as you can be with a loss,” coach Robert Bowles said. “I thought we played well. We generated, I felt like, more offense than Century because we had five shots on goal and they only had the one.”
A goal by Jorge Sanchez was called back early in the game and Century’s keeper made a great diving save to block Adam Stocks’ 25-yard shot later in the first half. Preston also outshot the Diamondbacks 10- 7 and allowed no shots within the 18-yard box. Just a little more luck and the Indians would have prevailed.
On Tuesday, Aug. 27, the Indians rolled 7-1 over Minico at home. “We played great and it was an excellent way to start the season,” said coach Bowles.
Preston will host Canyon Ridge on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 11 a.m. and travel to Pocatello on Tuesday, Sept. 17, to play at 4:30 p.m.
