Preston School Superintendent Joel Wilson announced an attendance incentive this week.
“Our funding from the state is based on attendance from Aug. 19 to Oct. 31,” Wilson said. “The better attendance we have during this time, the more funding the state gives the district.”
The Preston School District is urging families to postpone vacations or other events that would take students out of school through Oct. 31.
Wilson said he wants students to attend as regularly as possible after that date as well.
But it is critical to the districts funding that they have strong numbers in August, September, and October, he said.
“The classroom that has the highest percent attending during this time will have a pizza party and their pictures in The Citizen,” Wilson said.
