Area residents who have a sweet tooth now can satisfy that craving by stopping at a local fudge shop that recently opened on North State Street next to New York Deli.

Country Gourmet Home offers a great deal more than fudge at its storefront location. Shoppers can find a wide variety of easy-to-make gourmet food that ranges from soup-to-pancake-to-cookie mixes. Dip and lemonade mixes are also available, among others, at the store located at 32 N. State.

Country Home decor and bath and body items, also made locally, are available as well.

A grand opening is planned on Aug. 19 from 10:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Owner Amy Beth Pitcher, a Preston resident, said a variety of mixes will be given away during the event.

“All our mixes are prepared locally in our commercial kitchen,” she emphasized. “This is totally a family-run business. My husband, Shane, works with me full time. Our two boys, aged 10 and 13, help out as well,” she said.

“We developed Country Gourmet Home from scratch in 2006 while I was serving in the Air Force and did all of our business on-line. About one year ago, I decided to leave the military and come back to my roots so I would have more time with my boys and family,” she said.
