In a brief meeting Monday, the Preston City Council authorized the purchase of a 35-foot-tall flagpole, U.S. and Idaho flags from Colonial Flag in Salt Lake City to complete a project recognizing Cody O. Moosman for his ultimate sacrifice to his country and community.
The pole and flags will cost approximately $2,100 and Preston City public works crews will install the pole in the city park as soon as it arrives.
Moosman lost his life last year on July 3 while serving in the Army in Afghanistan. A granite bench was placed in the park this July 3. Early that evening someone placed a single, long-stemmed red rose on it.
City Councilman Todd Thomas, who has been coordinating the flagpole project, said it will be lighted so a six by 10-foot U.S. flag and five by eight-foot Idaho flag can be flown 24 hours per day on it. Thomas said he hopes to get the flagpole installed in the near future to complete the memorial spearheaded by Preston resident Douglas Webb.
