Dr. Barbara Taylor recently completed her one-year assignment as superintendent of West Side School District and has turned the leadership reins over to Spencer Barzee.

Taylor, who was a former Preston School District superintendent, was chosen in April 2012 to lead the district for a one-year transition period and has been training Barzee, the assistant superintendent, since she started her duties one year ago.

Taylor and Barzee took over duties of long-time superintendent Melvin Beutler, who announced his retirement in January 2012. Barzee continued to serve as high school principal this past school year.

“Dr. Taylor provided insights to the teachers and administration that enhanced our district. She truly is a dedicated professional and we are grateful for her service in our district,” said superintendent Barzee.

School board chair Tyler Bowles said when trustees were deciding on a set of new leaders for the district a little over a year ago, his sense was the board was satisfied they had selected individuals with high character, leadership skills and technical knowledge.
