Jerome L. and Fay W. Bennett gave their entire estate of $16, 224.13 to the Larsen-Sant Library recently.

Attorney Steve Fuller, who handled their affairs, said the couple was not able to have children. But they loved kids and they loved reading, he said.

“They gave all they had to the library. It was their widow’s mite,” he said.

The Bennetts were both voracious readers and they put in their will that they wanted their money to go to the library.

Both of them were raised on farms. They worked at various places until Jerome retired in 1973. They spent a lot of time in the library, Fuller added.

“They lived to read books and felt like giving what they had to the library was a way to give back to the community.
