For The Citizen
Steve Edwards has been chosen to be the grand marshal for this year’s “That Famous Preston Night Rodeo” parade.
Edwards has been a literal life-long citizen of Preston, having been born in the Preston Hospital and growing old within a three-block radius of there.
Edwards has worn many hats over the years besides the one always on his head. He has raced cars, served in the National Guard, been an officer for the Preston Elks and is a past president of the Preston Chamber of Commerce.
It’s hard to imagine now days, but before there was an ambulance service in Preston, Webb Funeral Home employees, often assisted by Edwards, his dad and brothers from Edwards Floral, were the community’s ambulance crew.
One has to wonder if someone might have thought they hadn’t survived whatever catastrophe they had suffered when they saw Webb Funeral Home and Edwards Floral coming to take them away.
Edwards has always loved anything to do with semi-trucks. He has been a truck driver and for a while owned his own trucking company. He always enjoyed watching trucks going up and down the highway from his perch at Edwards Floral. Edwards also spotted his wife-to-be, RaNae, from that same window while she was car hopping at the old A&W drive-in across the street.
