The Preston School District Board of Trustees approved a new general maintenance and operation budget of $11,700,000 for the 2013-2014 school year on June 19.
This year’s spending plan increased by $500,000, or five percent, compared to last year’s budget of $11,200,000. The term’s highest general maintenance and operation budget was seen in 2008/09 with a spending plan of $12,260,000.
Despite the recent increase, money is still short. “It is tight,” Preston School District clerk and treasurer Brian Mendenhall said.
“The state of Idaho seems to be recovering,” Mendenhall said. “That’s where most of our funds come from. All other funds were essentially the same, but the state added some money. We go the same way they go.”
