What should have been a happy occasion turned tragic when three-year-old Carter Bassett, son of Brendon and Dixie Bassett of Weston, was found face down in a hot tub during a wedding reception on Friday, June 20.
Emergency medical professionals, who were called, tried in vain to resuscitate the child.
The Herald Journal reported police were unable to explain how the boy got into the secured area and then found his way into the hot tub. It was reported there was nothing intentional or negligent leading up to the drowning.
The North Park Police Chief Kim Hawkes said someone spotted the youngster and jumped over a fence, grabbed the boy and began CPR immediately to no avail.
The boy was rushed to Logan Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The boy’s mother has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer.
An account has been set up under Carter’s name at Lewiston State Bank to help the family with expenses incurred from the tragedy.
