First grade students read 800 books

Pioneer Elementary emphasizes reading

It’s been a big reading year for Mrs. Lisa Wakley’s first-grade class at Pioneer Elementary School. Her students read 11,000 books this year and three of them read over 800 books.

HIT FROM HEART 2013

Those three may have been the only students in the history of the school, or at least in the five years Wakley has been teaching, to read that many books.

The students, Luke Foster, Druw Jones and Anne May, each earned over 400 accelerated reading points individually.
