Those who may miss out on Idaho’s Free Fishing Day this Saturday will have another opportunity to fish for free at Johnson Reservoir two days later on June 10.
The reservoir is located approximately three miles east of Preston.
Fish and Game officers from Franklin County and throughout the southeast region will be bringing the Take Me Fishing Trailer to the small impoundment that day from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
The trailer is loaded with fishing poles, tackle and bait for use by the public for free on a first-come, first-served basis.
And if participants register at the trailer, they don’t even need a license to fish, according to Jennifer Jackson, public information officer for the IDFG.
“Come out to this unique ‘meet and greet’ where you can fish with the Fish and Game officers and enjoy a free hot dog dinner prepared by them. There will also be a free raffle for some great prizes, including tackle boxes and fishing poles,” she said.
Jackson said people who do not know how to fish should come to the event.
“Those new to the sport can receive assistance with basic fishing skills, from tying knots to casting to reeling in a feisty fish. The Take Me Fishing Trailer isn’t just for kids either. Everyone is welcome,” she said.
Those who show up will have a chance to catch bluegill, perch and even a rainbow trout, said officials.
