The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department is joining efforts with law enforcement agencies throughout southeastern Idaho in raising funds to purchase a Lanco Bearcat vehicle for use in a seven-county region.
The vehicle is needed, according to Franklin County Sheriff Dave Fryar, to assist law enforcement agencies who are members of a STAR team, a tactical group consisting of members from the involved counties.
Fryar said two local deputies and one police officer from Preston City are members of the group who assist with critical incidents that occur throughout the region.
“Locally, we have a trained negotiator, sniper and entry man. Having the opportunity to be part of this STAR team is a great advantage to our community,” Fryar told The Citizen.
“Within 45 minutes we can have up to 30 trained law enforcement personnel here to help us in a serious conflict. We have called on this team before and then turned them around as we were able to solve the problem before arrival.
“I feel tremendous support from the other sheriffs that support this STAR team.”
