Povey honored: Clifton native wins prestigious award

Chuck Povey, of Clifton, was honored at College of Southern Idaho as the Female Athlete of the Year by college president Jerry Beck at a banquet recently.

The West Side High School graduate was chosen from all the women’s sports teams at the college, including basketball, softball, volleyball and track.

“It was a huge surprise,” Povey said. “It was an honor to get that award considering all the good athletes who were nominated.”

Rodeo team head coach Steve Birnie said she was well deserving of the award.

The President’s Golden Eagle Athlete Award is based on a combination of three things:

1) Athletic performance and accomplishments

2) Academics

3) Community Service/ Leadership within the team, league, and/ or region.
