There will be a trustee election in the West Side School District on May 21, but no election in the Preston School District.
The West Side election will pit incumbent Stacey Olsen against patron Daniel Garner in Zone 4 (the Dayton area). The term of office is four years, according to Franklin County elections clerk Camille Larsen.
She said absentee balloting is now underway at the Franklin County Courthouse.
“Polls will be open on May 21 from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. at the Media Library at West Side High School,” she said.
Larsen said no one filed for the trustee election in the Preston District except the two incumbents.
“The seats that are open in Preston are in Zones 3 and 5. They are held by Jody Shumway and Chad Womack, respectively,” she said. “Because no one filed to run against these two incumbents they will be sworn into office for another four years during the July school board meeting.”
Larsen also said there were two additional trustee positions up for election in the West Side District, but no one filed against these two incumbents, as well.
“In Zone 1, the trustee is Terri Fredrickson. In Zone 3, Tyler Bowles represents the district. Both of these individuals will be sworn into office during the July West Side trustee meeting,” she added.
Larsen said for more information about the election she can be contacted at the clerk’s office. Folks can also call the West Side District office for information, she said.
The election this year will be conducted by the Franklin County Clerk. A new law, passed two years ago by the Idaho Legislature, places the county clerk’s office in charge of all elections in the county and includes school districts, among others.
