A major remodel of The Preston Citizen bookstore on South State has started and work will continue in the evenings over the next few weeks.
The effort will give the bookstore and copy center an entirely different look and modernize its appearance. It will be more customer-friendly when the project is completed.
“When I first took over as publisher in August of 2011, I held interviews with all the employees and nearly every one mentioned how outdated and tired the retail store looked,” said Greg Madson, publisher.
“We also surveyed our readers last summer and they also mentioned the store’s appearance.”
Madson said the plan is to open up the interior, paint it with a bright color and re-carpet the sales area.
“We also have moved our business manager out of a hidden office into an office that allows her to see the sales floor. We plan to freshen up our displays and, as business grows, add more inventory,” he said.
“We are appreciative of the community’s support of The Citizen newspaper and bookstore. Please be patient with us during this remodel and we encourage you to watch for an open house/grand reopening this summer.”
The bookstore will remain open during the remodel and a remodeling sale has started.
The store needs to move inventory to make the construction effort easier. Shop now and save on gifts for graduation, Mother’s and Father’s days.
