DAYTON – Several West Side students participated last Thursday in the district’s annual Fine Arts Competition.
The first place winners were: piano, Zach Talbot; vocal, Troy Graves; instrumental, Parker Mueller; dance, Whitnee Smart; art (drawing), Zach Talbot; art, (painting) Zach Talbot and art (sculpture), Carson Roberts.
Second place winners were: piano, Cason Nash; vocal, Mindy Weeks; instrumental, Kelsi Chugg; dance, Anyssa Porter; art (drawing) Mason Lemmon; art (painting), Kelsi Chugg; and art (sculpture) Carlton Baird.
Some 16 students performed for a large crowd that enjoyed the evening. Mary Penrod spearheaded the whole event. The Masters of Ceremonies for the evening were Duke and Katie Mumford, said Janalyn Maw, a district official.
They entertained the crowd in between numbers. The 2012 winners, Elisabeth Mumford, Kennedy Bingham and Mindy Penrod, also performed for the crowd
The first place winners received a plaque and $50. The second place winners received a plaque and $25. The entire evening was organized and funded by West Side Community members with the help and cooperation of the West Side School District, she said.
