In just over three months West Side School District will get a new superintendent and a new high school principal.
Spencer Barzee, named last April as assistant superintendent, will take over on July 1 to lead the district.
Tyler Telford, who is currently the middle school principal and high school athletic director, will become high school principal. He will retain his duties as the athletic director.
Former Preston School District superintendent Dr. Barbara Taylor was chosen last April to lead the district for a one-year transition period and has been training Barzee since she started last July.
Taylor and Barzee took over duties of long-time superintendent Melvin Beutler, who announced his retirement in January 2012. Barzee has continued to serve as principal this school year.
Several months ago school board chair Tyler Bowles told The Citizen trustees have great confidence in Barzee.
“He has the core characteristics and values that will make him a great leader of our school district. He also has the technical skills and experience that will help him get off to a good start. We understand, however, that leadership transitions can be difficult, particularly when you have large shoes to fill and when there are several administrative changes taking place simultaneously.
