Distinguished Young Women: Sixteen young women vie for title

Sixteen girls who are juniors in high school are participating in the annual Distinguished Young Woman Scholarship Program, an event sponsored by the Franklin County Farm Bureau.

The program will be held Saturday, April 13, at the Preston High School auditorium at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the Farm Bureau.

The scholarship program gives girls the opportunity to earn money for their talent, scholastic ability, poise and composure and physical fitness.

During the evening, as a new Distinguished Young Woman is chosen, reigning title holder Hannah Waite will take her final walk, relinquishing her title to the new 2013-2014 girl.

Co-chairpersons for the program are Julie Smith and Vickie Henderson.
