Preston High School cheerleaders swept the district competition held at Pocatello High School recently.

This is the first time the Preston cheer squad has qualified in all four areas since the IHSAA recognized cheer as a sport, said Coach Pandi Elison.

“They did very well. They took first in all four categories,” she said.

Although the coach was surprised at the girls’ success, she thought they might have a good chance of scoring high in the different areas.

“The girls have done well at our preparatory competitions, so I expected them to qualify in several areas. But, sweeping all first places is rarely done,” Elison said.

Pocatello and Century have been tough to compete against in the past. Both of those schools have a history of placing and winning at state competitions in the last few years.
