A nonfiction memoir that has its setting in Soda Springs is the Let’s Talk About It title to be discussed Wednesday, March 20, at 7 p.m. at the Larsen-Sant Library.
Copies of the book are available at the library for checkout.
“The Enders Hotel focuses on the “rural boomtown of Soda Springs where the historic Enders Hotel, cafe and bar is located,” a review of the award-winning novel indicates.
The hotel is a three-story brick building that has served as lots of things to many people.
The paperback by Brandon R. Shrand recounts how he grew up under the hotel’s leaking roof, watching “a cast of broken characters pass through the hotel doors.”
Those included an alcoholic artist, a boxing champion who has been forgotten, an ex-convict and a homeless family. In the midst of that the author tried to discover his own identity.
Being haunted by a father he’d never seen, the author tested the faces of those drifters to find familiarity. The book is a River Teeth Literary Nonfiction Prize winner.
