The West Side Pirates surged ahead of North Star Charter in overtime during the first round of the 2A state basketball playoffs in Boise on Thursday afternoon and now advance to the semi-final round.
The Pirates won 44-36 and outscored North Star 10-2 in the overtime period. Mason Lemmon and Tate Fuller made some critical shots in overtime. Lemmon ended the game with 23 points and Fuller added 10.
The West Side win came despite a lousy showing from the foul line. The Pirates only connected on 43.5 percent of those shots. But they clamped down on North Star and allowed them only 23 percent shooting, including only one of 15 from the three-point arc.
West Side plays Grangeville this evening at 6:15 p.m. at Capital High School for a shot at the title game on Saturday.
