Clifton residents came out and showed their support for the 17th annual birthday party of their local convenience/ jerky store, Papa Jay’s, on Saturday. There were jerky samples, fresh roast beef sandwiches and door prizes for those who came to join in the fun. Everyone could also try their hand at the “Wheel of Prizes” to see if you would win a tiny, small, or big piece of candy, or the coveted piece of jerky.

Papa Jay’s was started 17 years ago and has grown to be “the place” in Clifton. If you want to know what is going on, visit with your neighbors, or enjoy some of the best food around, Papa Jay’s is where you want to be.

The store is named after its original owner, Jay Moyle, who started the store in 1996. His daughter, Mary Penrod, and her husband Rich, took over the store and the jerky business after “Papa Jay” passed away.

The jerky is some of the best around. People come from all over to “stock up” on their favorite flavors. The jerky is made on site, and is shipped coast to coast. It has even been shipped to Afghanistan and most residents request it to be in their stockings at Christmas and part of their birthday presents. There are currently six flavors available: original, teriyaki, honey, peppered, sweet peppered, and the newest flavor ghost chili (extremely hot). Whichever one is your favorite you will not be disappointed.

The store also offers some great deli items, the most popular item being their slow roasted roast beef sandwiches with either Papa Jay’s sweet BBQ sauce, or served with au jus sauce. Other items available are hamburgers, smoked turkey or pork sandwiches, French fries and chicken sandwiches.

The birthday party, which is an event that is looked forward to by locals, is a way for owners, Mary and Rich, to “give back” and say “thank you” for another great year. If you missed this year’s event, don’t worry, come by and visit or make sure you come next year. You will always be welcome at Papa Jay’s.
