A long-time Banida-area resident, Karla Cattani, a longtime Preston High School teacher, died Sunday afternoon from injuries sustained in a snowmobile accident near her home.

Franklin County Sheriff Dave Fryar said his office received a call about a snowmobile accident in the Banida area at 2:37 p.m.

“When our officer arrived on scene at 3142 West 7600 No., ambulance personnel had already loaded Mrs. Cattani, 77, in an ambulance and were leaving for the Franklin County Medical Center.

“When the officer arrived at the hospital, a family member notified him that Mrs. Cattani had died from her injuries,” said Fryar.

Catanni was operating a snowmobile near her home and for whatever reason sped up and collided with an overhead fuel tank. The tank fell on top of her, according to the accident report.

“The Sheriff’s Office and personnel extend their condolences to the Cattani family,” said Fryar.
