Three times in the charm for West Side as it defeated Malad at home by 24 points on Tuesday in the opening round of the 2A Fifth district Basketball Tournament.
The Pirates, who beat Malad on Friday and swept the regular-season contests between the two schools, jumped on the Dragons early and didn’t let up in the convincing win.
West Side head coach Tyler Brown said he thought his players performed consistently on defense and moved well all four quarters.
The Pirates went into the tournament as the number two seed behind Soda Springs and led Malad 30-14 at the half. Mason Lemmon led all scorers with 17.
The Pirates head north to Soda Springs for a 7 p.m. game on Thursday. Soda defeated Aberdeen in Soda on Tuesday.
