Two former Preston residents, Alexis Vaughn and her father Michael, were highlighted in Readers Digest in this month’s February 2013 issue.
The story is written by freelance journalist, Melody Warnick.
She went into great detail about the deer attack on Sue Panter, who was jogging at the time. Warnick did a great job. She covered the whole attack scenario and how Alexis beat the animal with a hammer to get it off of her father. When the deer finally left, Alexis took them both to the hospital to be treated.
The story described Panter going out for a jog and being attacked by the buck. It recognized her for thinking smart and jumping into action. It is in the “Everyday Heroes” series that profiles ordinary people across the country and their extraordinary deeds.
